As a shoei owner - i LOVE my mp44 but i tell you it gets bloody heavy after several hours on a hot day! I would buy a chinese mp44 just for the convenience of not having the gas bottle and six heavy mags .... I considered the ultima but they have sold out it seems (and there is the small consideration of buying food).......and a couple of short mags so i ca go prone...

The ither issue is that the mp44 only really made an appearance in 1944.... and then it was mostly used by the SS -which means , depending on you pov that you could only use it for post 1944 themed games. (deep breath now..) also and at the risk of being flamed and starting up an old discussion, we will get into the situation of having hicap wars where we will all effectively become little support gunners just like those bad open days! - I know the ammo limit is supposed to stop that, but we have had people running around holding Thompson triggers down for all they're worth! I should say that i do use hicaps but for carrying capacity not fire power)- btw I also really really enjoyed the single shot game at bryansk.

personally even if mg42's and mp44's become aplenty I cant see it ever becoming like those open days. at open days i see people carrying 6-10 (of 300-45rnds) hicaps and midcaps as extras plus bottles of ammo just in case. the 600 round limit nips that in the bud completely IMO.

yes a 400 rnd hicap lets you spray a bit more but having seen people fighting on the allied side I rarely see anyone just burning 1/2 a hicap in one go. tends to be more short bursts as people are aware they WILL have to trudge back to the CP to reload.

I do wish they'd make some 100rnd or 190rnd chinese thompson mags though. its nice changing mags but not nice enough to consider the 53rnd chinese mags heh.

to be honest its becomming less and less of an issue anyway as more people move away from the thompsons. for haggard and husky I'll be using my m1 carbine and only getting the thompson out if that develops a fault. and more n more folk are going down the garand route. I think I counted 4 or 5 people alone who converted their m14 this month. on top of the 3-5 who already have one thats virtually half the US players already.

I think you've also got to differentiate between CiA WW2 and other none hi-cap film / mil sim events and open days when you're up against M4s galore. These are two completely different scenarios and for the former it's my low cap M1 and M1A1 but for the latter (which I play a lot and love) it's got to be hi-caps galore. Personally I'd love an StG44 with six hi-caps or an MG42 just to lace those Baghdad wannabes 8)
